Mallorca Beaches: Es Coll Baix in Alcudia

Es Coll Baix Beach in Alcudia, a Virgin Beach;

Es Coll Baix Beach is one of the most special beaches in Mallorca for all Nature lovers, yes, and an unspoilt beach with crystalline and bright turquoise waters in natural and idyllic surroundings that belongs to a protected area as a Natural Area of Special Interest declared by Balearic Government that includes all the area around. It is an ideal beach to be away from the world.

THE BEACH

Es Coll Baix Beach is located at seven kilometers from Alcúdia old town and it is the only virgin municipal and public beach. Even though we are talking about a beach that is considered a pebble beach, there is also coarse-grained sand of a greyish color perfect for extending the towel and enjoy the sun in absolute silence. As you can see on photos, we are speaking about a wide and straight sea inlet that finishes on a spectacular beach, surrounded by some breathtaking steep rocky cliffs and closed by a quite high headland that begins on this amazing sandy area.

The surroundings are natural and protected, the typical Mediterranean Forest and not far away from Es Coll Baix Beach there is “Sa Talaia d’Alcúdia”, a 445 meters high defense tower of the 16th century, from where the bays of Alcúdia and Pollensa can be seen in its absolute beauty.

Anchoring boats has to be done at a reasonable distance from the beach because in this area the sea is not very deep, about a depth of about five meters, on a sandy and rocky ground. This beach is the first possible shelter between Cap des Pinar and the steep Cap de Menorca. The nearest port facilities are located at Port d’Alcúdia, at 4.8 nautical miles.

The accessibility by car is easy from Alcúdia. Departing from Alcúdia you must drive the Cami del Mal Pas for 1.5 Kilometer and when arriving at Mal Pas in a small crossroad, turn right onto “Cami de la Muntanya” and drive for about 3 kilometers until you reach a small shelter. Try to park somewhere. Here you have to start a rather complicated walk on tracks and trails, with an estimated duration of about 25 minutes and five kilometers at the end on a dusty trail next to a precipice. This difficult walk is nevertheless worth it, you will enjoy a changing beautiful landscape, with agricultural land, terraces and pine woods and the Mediterranean Sea on the Mallorcan coast. This is why the beach is not crowded at all.

Be careful, there is no lifeguard service in Es Coll Baix Beach. Act cautiously when no lifeguard is present or the service is not available and enjoy the beach without taking any unnecessary risks. For health and safety reasons, the municipal ordinances ban pets on beaches.

Concerning to children, es Coll Baix is not considered good for children of small age, take care. We do not see the way to arrive to es Coll Baix for kids, whether for children aged 10 years or more, because the road requires skill.

It is not considered as a Nudist Beach in a lot of beach guides…
